Security Guide for Rat Lab
Lock down escapes, master capture tools, and stop armed revenge runs.
Security in Rat Lab exists to capture escaped Lab Rats, protect the facility, and shut down the optional revenge return after a three-stage escape. You win by understanding session unlock timers, vest versus non-vest damage, and when to hold chokepoints instead of overextending into scientist halls. This guide is the staff hunter playbook.
Pair it with Security, How to Escape (know the route you are cutting), and Tools & Unlocks. New players should still skim Getting Started.
Mission profile
- Prevent stage progression when possible; a rat stuck in stage one is a free reset of pressure.
- Secure captures for progress toward badges like Caught One.
- After an Out of the Lab style escape succeeds, prepare for re-entry fights—not lobby AFK.
- Coordinate with Scientists so experiments do not block chase lanes; see Scientist Guide.
You are not a pure deathmatch class. Early tools emphasize control (Net, Baton); later tools emphasize lethality (rifles, sniper, shotguns).
Capture difficulty: why rats feel slippery
New Security players underestimate three things:
- Timer asymmetry. Your best tools unlock later. Early rats can push stages before you have guns.
- Vest rats (~+50 HP). They soak shots that delete non-vest targets. Commit more ammo or combine control tools.
- Revenge travel. Escaped rats come back with intent and weapons; your mid-map habits must flip to entrance denial.

Tool timeline for Security
Unlocks are per session and reset unless Forever gamepasses apply. Approximate staff-relevant beats:
| Time | Tools | Security use |
|---|---|---|
| ~5m | Baton, Net | Primary early capture window—play aggressive patrols |
| ~10m | Medkit, Taser, Body Armour | Sustain fights; Taser stops stage runners |
| ~15m | Antidote, Pistol | Begin ranged denial |
| ~22m | Rifles | Hold long labs and corridors |
| ~25m | Mouse Trap | Lock flanks and revenge paths |
| ~30m | Shotguns, Turret | Anchor sites; punish close returns |
| ~60m | OP Mutations | Expect chaotic late power from multiple roles |
Paid Security-leaning options include Armored Guard (R$249), Sniper (R$399), MG (R$299), Stronger Leash (R$99), and Forever unlocks so you skip the wait. Sniper one-shots non-vest rats—hold angles where non-vest runners must cross. Full prices and notes: Tools & Unlocks, rankings: Tools Tier List.
Vest math in fights
- Non-vest: sniper peeks and focused rifle fire end chases quickly.
- Vest (+50 HP): do not assume one clean shot; net/taser setups plus follow-up matter more.
- Never waste sniper timing on a vest rat if a non-vest runner is about to exit stage three.
Patrolling the three escape stages
Use the escape structure against them:
- Stage one: flood early Net/Baton presence; this is your cheapest win rate.
- Stage two: cover transitions where scientists cluster; call targets for teammates.
- Stage three / exit: play denial, not random room clears. Late tools should already be online if the session ran long.
If a rat exits, rotate to revenge intercept paths immediately. The biggest Security failure is celebrating a partial chase while the escape finishes elsewhere.
Revenge defense checklist
- Pre-aim common return doors with rifle/sniper once unlocked.
- Place Mouse Trap / Turret logic on forced paths after ~25–30m.
- Keep Medkit discipline; revenge fights are longer against vested, armed rats.
- Do not ignore Mutation chaos—OP minute-sixty swings cut both ways (Mutations).
Badges and honesty about codes
Chase Caught One as a Security north star; facility badges like Test Subject still appear in the ecosystem. Escape badges on the server mean you are behind the curve.
There are no confirmed promo codes that spawn free Security kits. Ignore fake lists; use Codes only when real promos appear. Mutation Index codes are unrelated to your redeem UI.
Practice drills
- Spend one session using only pre-15m tools to learn Net/Baton/Taser captures.
- Spend one session holding stage-three denial with rifles.
- After any escape, force yourself to guard return paths for two minutes before looting.
- Duel vest vs non-vest intentionally so HP differences become instinct.
- Review How to Escape weekly so rat meta routes stay fresh.

Security in Rat Lab is timer management plus route denial. Win early with control tools, win late with angles and traps, and never forget that a vest rat is a different animal than a sniper’s favorite non-vest runner.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Rat Lab players.
What does Security do in Rat Lab?
Security captures escaped Lab Rats, locks down stage routes, and defends against optional revenge returns after rats exit.
Why are some rats harder to kill?
Vest rats have about +50 HP. Snipers can one-shot non-vest rats, but vest targets need more commitment or control tools.
When do Security tools unlock?
Roughly Net/Baton at 5m, Taser/armour/medkit at 10m, pistol at 15m, rifles at 22m, traps at 25m, shotguns/turret at 30m—session-based and reset without Forever passes.
What should I do after a rat escapes?
Rotate to revenge return paths immediately. Escaped rats can come back armed; celebrating early loses the second fight.
Is Armored Guard worth it?
Armored Guard costs R$249 and helps Security survivability. Try free timer unlocks first, then buy if you main the role every session.
